Techniques for Project Estimation (TPE)

Delivery Format: Instructor-led on-site

Duration: 2 days

Audience: Project Managers, Project Leaders, and anyone involved in estimation.

Overview:
Project estimates are the basis of making and meeting commitments, but reliable estimating techniques are seldom understood or applied. This course teaches the technical concepts behind estimation and includes numerous interactive exercises to understand how estimation works. Participants learn how to use multiple estimating techniques and tools, and how to communicate estimates to management.

NOTE: This course is also offered in a 1-day format for projects that don’t involve software development.

Topics Include:

  • The nature and purpose of estimation.
  • Task-based estimation techniques.
  • Scope-based estimation techniques (with an emphasis on software projects).
  • Experience, empirical, regression and theoretical-based approaches.
  • Establishing and maintaining an estimation process.
  • Presenting estimates to senior management.
